But what about the taste? Rest assured, these homemade dog cookies have undergone rigorous taste-testing by the pickiest of pooches, all of whom enthusiastically gave me their paw of approval with these dog approved flavors.

Shelf-Life Extension - Food Dehydrator Trick

To prolong the shelf-life of these treats, I employ a simple trick: a food dehydrator. After baking, I transfer the cookies to the dehydrator for a few 3 to 4 hours, giving them that satisfying crunch that my dogs adore.

Elevating Flavor - Drizzling with Maple Syrup

For those looking to add an extra touch of indulgence, try drizzling the treats with real maple syrup before dehydrating—a step that elevates the flavor to new heights.

Recipe: Homemade Waffle Maker Dog Cookies
Ingredients:
  • 2 cooked large sweet potatoes, skins removed

  • 4 very ripe bananas

  • 3 eggs

  • 8 tablespoons melted butter

  • 8 cups of oatmeal, ground up in a food processor to make oat flour

  • 3 teaspoons Ceylon cinnamon

  • 4 to 5 tablespoons of milk (or a small splash to wet down the batter)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked sweet potatoes and ripe bananas together until smooth.

  2. Add the eggs and melted butter to the mashed sweet potato and banana mixture, and mix until well combined.

  3. Gradually add the oat flour and cinnamon to the wet ingredients, stirring until a thick batter forms.

  4. If the batter seems too dry, add a small splash of milk to moisten it slightly. Allow the batter to sit for 20 minutes to allow the oat flour to absorb and expand.

  5. Preheat your waffle maker according to manufacturer instructions.

  6. Spoon approximately 1 tablespoon of batter into each leaf of the waffle maker.

  7. Close the waffle maker and bake for about 5 minutes, or until the cookies are golden brown and cooked through.

  8. Once baked, remove the cookies from the waffle maker and allow them to cool completely before serving to your pup.

  9. Watch as your furry friend eagerly devours these delicious homemade treats, and don't be surprised if they come back asking for more!
